Established in 1998 by founder and director Sheila Dollas, RDE, Moving Miracles opened its first season with only 4 students. Today, Moving Miracles serves more than 150 children, adolescents, and adults of all abilities. We are proud to be WNY's leader in providing quality dance education to individuals with special needs.
Through our full-time, Day habilitation, and Community Outreach programs, Moving Miracles offers classes in tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, Zumba and creative movement. We also provide an innovative non-ambulatory program for dancers who utilize wheelchairs. Our student body ranges in age from children as young as three years old to adults in their 70s. Many of our dancers have a form of Cerebral Palsy; Autism, Down Syndrome, complex seizure disorders, developmental delays, visual and/or hearing impairments, ADD/ADHD, and behavioral issues are some of the other challenges our students are victoriously dancing with each day.
In 2004, Moving Miracles established its own national touring dance company. The "Company" dancers travel to promote Moving Miracles and share their gifts and talents with a wide audience. Company has also collaborated with several local and national caliber dance companies, such as the Greater Buffalo Youth Ballet, our very first collaborative partner. The Company Dancers and the GBYB have collaborated on many pieces for our past annual performances and they have also performed with us in the community several times at events such as Young Audiences of WNY’s Arts Abilities Conference and Suburban Adult Service’s Annual Gala. Configuration Dance Theatre, Verlezza Dance of Ohio, and the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange of Maryland are among the other collaborative partners we’ve worked with in recent years.
Moving Miracles is also the only program of its kind in the Western New York area to be nationally recognized by the National Dance Education Organization. Our studio director is an active member of NDEO, holds a concurrent membership with the New York State Dance Education Association, and is a member of the National Registry of Dance Educators.
